Biking in Southwest Michigan

Today I went for a biking near St. Joseph, MI on a bike path off Niles road, near Ace Hardware. I parked in the Ace Hardware parking lot across from Eagle's Point marina. The trail is just west of the parking lot and visible from Niles Ave.

I had heard about this trail from many people and had to check it out for myself. The trail is actually a 'park' that runs along an old train track sans track. I was a little disappointed at how short the trail was, it took me about 15 minutes to ride to the end of the trail where I found a little park with a sign.

On the way back I noticed smaller trails that went into the woods. The trails that went into the woods were short as well but if you know how to play on a bike and want a bit of a minor challenge this trail is good fun. On one of my jaunts on one of the smaller trails I interrupted 4 deer feeding.

I came up over a hill and there they were, when we noticed each other we were probably about 10 feet apart. Definitely the highlight of the ride.

As far as bike trails go, I'd rate this trail a 3 out of 10. It was a beautiful trail that provided minimal challenge, the 3 rating is mostly due to the trail being so short. This trail would be a good trail for kids or if you only have time for a short ride.

Anyone have any bike trails they could recommend? Any bike stories on this trail?
